Bout of Books 5.0 Goals

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal.  It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 13th and runs through Sunday, August 19th in whatever time zone you are in.  Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week.  There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.  For all Bout of Books 5.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 5.0 team

This is my first read-a-thon and I work full time during the week so I probably won’t be breaking any reading records. But I thought this would be a great opportunity to finally finish some series that I started a while ago.

Time Devoted to Reading

My plan is to read as much as I can during the work week and then about 5-6 hours during the weekend.
My Goals
  • Finish reading the Millenium series and the Demonica Series
  • Visit and comment on at least 5 blogs a day
  • Complete at least half the mini challenges

Books to Read
  • Ecstasy Unveiled by Larissa Ione
  • Sin Undone by Larissa Ione
  • The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson
  • Make You Cry by D. Cristiana (I added this novella on Saturday)
  • Backwoods by Cara McKenna (I finished this on Sunday)

Updates

Monday

I read 68 pages of Ecstasy Unveiled

Completed 2 mini challenges

Challenge #1: Passing Books hosted by Reading in Texas and The Space Between

Tell us what happens to your books after you have read them.
Answer: I usually give them away to a friend or they just take up space on my book shelves.

Challenge #2: Literary BFFs hosted by Auggie Talk

I would choose Rhiannon Murphy from J.A. Saare's Rhiannon's Law series. In the last book, THE RIPPLE EFFECT, she was pretty hard headed and could have used a BFF to knock some sense into her.

Tuesday

I only read 10 pages of Ecstasy Unveiled today. While I haven't gotten a ton of reading done, I am enjoying being back in the Demonica world. I suspect the bulk of my reading will happen on Saturday and Sunday. I expect to finish both Demonica books but may not be able to finish The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

Challenges - I completed one challenge today

Challenge #1: Limericks hosted by Curiosity Killed the Bookworm

My favorite books have made me cry
Most often because a character will die
The best authors write a story that makes me feel
The best stories can seem ever so real
Sometimes I’m sad that it’s all a fabulous lie.

Wednesday

I only read 26 pages last night.
Total pages read: 130
Books: Ecstasy Unveiled

I participated in the Twitter chat tonight. Then I completed the two challenges. Now for some more Lore and Idess.

Challenges

Challenge #1: Book Word Search hosted by The Musings of ALMYBNENR

I like word searches so this was a lot of fun. I worked on it during the Twitter chat. It took me forever to find "Storm".

Challenge #2: Match the Zombie Book Cover hosted by The Busy Bibliophile

I don't read zombie books so I had to guess at all of these covers. My score was 6/13. "You win the Bronze Medal in Zombies". The quiz was fun though. Those are some crazy covers and titles!

Thursday

I read 77 pages of Ecstasy Unveiled. I read during my lunch break and for an hour before bed. I'm more than half way done.

Total pages read: 207
Books:

I didn't have time to do any challenges today. Maybe tomorrow.

Friday

I read 38 pages today.
Total number of pages read: 245

I plan to finish reading Ecstasy Unveiled tomorrow and starting Sin Undone.

I completed one challenge today and it was a fun one.

Challenges

Challenge #1: Book Spine Haiku hosted by bookgoonie

My Haiku:
Ecstasy Unveiled
Melt Into You, Rogue, Alpha
The Last Girl; Hush, Hush

Saturday

I finished reading Ecstasy Unveiled today.
I also read a novella, Make You Cry by D. Christiana
Total pages read: 435
Books: 2

I participated in the Twitter chat this morning. There was a lot of encouragement and kind words from everyone.

Challenges:

Challenge #1: Music hosted by My Not So Real Life

In this challenge we are to choose a book that we've read his year and pair it up with a song that evokes the mood of the book. I've chosen The Reckoning by Alma Katsu which is a dark gothic story about un-requited love. I was listening to a lot of Evanescene while reading this novel so I'm going to pair it up with one of my favorite songs of theirs, "Bring Me  to Life".

Challenge #2: Page 99 Test hosted by My Seryniti

I've chosen page 99 of Sin Undone by Larrissa Ione, the next novel that I'm going to read during this read-a-thon. I thought the beginning of page 99 was intriguing from what I know about Sin she's pretty fearless and it sounds like this installment of the series will be full of action.

Con could practically hear the smile in the male's voice. "You're weakening, succubus. Don't take to long to roll over."
Very slowly, Sin mashed te end button, still looking at the BlackBerry's screen. "Asshole," she muttered.
Con realized he was gripping the steering wheel hard enough to put a bend in it, and forced himself to ease up. "How many assassins might be after you?"
Her fingers formed fists in her lap and she turned to fix him with a penetrating stare. "All of them," she said. "They've all turned on me."

Sunday - Final Day and Wrap Up
Number of books I've read today: I started reading Sin Undone today.
I finished reading Backwoods by Cara McKenna

This was my first Bout of Books and I had a good time. It was fun. I didn't finish all the books that I set out to read but the ones that I did read, I enjoyed a lot.

In total I read 3 books.
I participated in 2 Twitter chats.
I participated in  8 mini-challenges.

Thank you to Kelly and Amanda for all their hard work and to all the bloggers who hosted the mini-challenges and giveaways.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starts off slow but once you get through the first 100 pages it's pretty good.
Good luck to you as well.

  9. Hi! Great idea to try finishing a series during a Read-a-Thon...maybe I should do that next time, too! I love to follow characters through several books before I have to let them go again - I feel like that way you can dive into the world a lot farther :) Good luck with your goals!

    1. Hi Pepca,
I liked the Swedish version of the Dragon Tattoo slightly better than the English version. Please don't let the movie discourage you. The books are ALWAYS better than the movie.
      Good luck to you too.

  18. Flipping awesome haiku. Can't believe you put Kicking the Hornet Nest on a RA. Those books are beast. I loved it, but felt like it mostly laid out what we mostly knew.

Good Luck & thanks for entering.
